How are Nebraska nurse practitioners supervised to protect the public safety? Public safety is assured through several processes. First, all nurse practitioners are licensed by the State to assure that they have meet minimum education and certification standards. Second, the Nebraska Board of Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners is available to review the practice of any nurse practitioner who might be practicing outside of their scope of practice or whose qualifications are not within standards established by the State. Third, nurse practitioners are required to be affiliated with a "supervising" physician who is available to assist with problems that the nurse practitioner cannot manage.
